Shoreline Cleanup Volunteer

WITH OCEAN WISE SHORELINE CLEANUP

Summary

The Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup is a conservation program that empowers individuals and groups to take direct action against aquatic litter. Volunteers register to join or lead cleanups at rivers, lakes, streams, and ocean shorelines across British Columbia. By spending a few hours collecting and documenting waste, participants not only improve the health of local ecosystems but also contribute valuable data that informs scientific research and policy decisions on plastic pollution.

The program is flexible and designed to be accessible—cleanups can be organized year-round, in almost any community, and participants receive guidance on safety and data collection. Volunteers can join an existing event or register their own site, making it easy to get involved with friends, schools, workplaces, or community groups. Every cleanup makes a visible difference while supporting Ocean Wise’s larger mission to protect and restore our oceans through science, education, and community engagement.
